Windows platform

How does it work?

If the Cirrus Forecast Downloader is installed on Windows, it will run as a Windows Service.

A Windows Service has multiple benefits:

  • Starts automatically when the computer is started or restarted
  • Runs in the background
  • Can easily be restarted through Windows Services

Downloading

The Cirrus Forecast Downloader installer can be downloaded from the "API Keys" page here.

Installing

Once the installer is downloaded, double-click on the file CirrusForecast.Downloader.Installer.msi and follow the steps.

Your API key can be found on the "API Keys" page here. To get an API key, click "Add new API key". The download path is where you want the weather forecast files to download on the computer you are installing the software.

{warning} Generating a new API key overwrites the old one. If you already have the downloader running, it will stop working until the API key is updated with the newly generated one.

Note: In order to keep your API key secure, you cannot retrieve a previously generated API key once you leave the "API Keys" page after generating a new one. You can, however, re-generate a key as many times as you need to. Because of this, it is advised to NOT record or write the key somewhere other than the configuration file.

Updating

The majority of the time the Cirrus Forecast Downloader will update itself as we make improvements. There may be rare circumstances where you have to manually re-install the application. In these cases, we'll let you know when that is required.

Uninstalling

If for whatever reason you need to uninstall the Cirrus Forecast Downloader, it can be uninstalled using the normal Windows Add/remove programs. It will be named "Cirrus Forecast Downloader".

After uninstalling, there may still be some files left behind. If you would like to delete these as well, go to C:\Program Files (x86)\Cirrus Forecast and delete all of the remaining files.
